TGIM

I love Mondays. I'd even say it's probably my favorite day of the week. Funny enough, many people love to hate the day, but I think much like coleslaw, they hate it because they believe they're supposed to. In all reality, Monday is our best friend. Just hear me out.

First of all, at the most basic level, making it to another Monday is a small achievement. You made it through another week, and for all my folks that don't remember most of their Friday and Saturday nights, you made it through yet another weekend. Yes, despite your best efforts, you're still alive, and that alone is cause for celebration.

Secondly, for a moment, I'd like you to ask yourself, would you ever consider New Year's Day a dreadful occasion? Let's be real, I know you've all, at some point, made a set of goals that will help you step into each year a "new you." We can take it even further and think about the feelings we'd get on the first day of school. You’d be lying if you said you don’t remember the excitement of putting together your best outfits, then envisioning how you’d walk by that one person you thought about all summer. Man, those jeans used to be big. Ok, back to the present.  At this point, you should be thinking "how is there any correlation at all to what Mondays are like"? Well, in a way, the essence of both New Year's and the first day of school is in every Monday. In both situations the excitement doesn't come from the occasion itself but what the occasion represents. A beginning. If New Year's was only a day then the calendar went back to the old year, it wouldn’t mean anything. Similarly, the first day of school is exciting because it marks the start of a new journey. Every Monday represents a new day, week, goals to be achieved, deals to be made, and mistakes to learn from.

Monday is like the sunrise after a dark night. No matter how harsh, disappointing or unproductive last week was, this week can be different. Waking up to Monday is a fresh canvas. Naturally, it will require some work, but you can turn your day and life into a masterpiece. I can’t speak for you, but when it comes to me, I have a lot to accomplish and need time to get it done. So today I say, thank God it's Monday.
